Tell Us Everything: Story Slam

Friday, December 16, 7-9pm, $5-10 donations at the door

Prepare a five-minute story, based on the theme “Light,” put your name in a hat and you could be one of ten people selected to tell your story onstage.

How to prepare:

  • Prepare a five-minute story incorporating the theme, Light.
  • Stories about your near-death experience, a light bulb moment, that beautiful sunrise, or a simple salad you had for lunch!
  • Stories should not be longer than five minutes and must be told not read- that means no notes, no writing on your palm, no cue cards. We’re timing you!
  •  Stories should have a beginning, middle, and end.

How to participate:

  • Storytellers should arrive with a prepared 5-minute story and put their names into the hat 30 minutes before the slam begins.
  • Our host picks names from the hat and storytellers take to the stage one at a time.
  • After each story, three groups of judges from the audience give a score based on the following criteria:
    • Is the story on theme?
    • Was it five minutes or shorter?
    • Was it a story? (i.e., Did it have a beginning, a middle, and an end?)

At the end of the slam, the storyteller with the highest score wins!

What do you win? Bragging rights and the glow of accomplishment that comes with a story well told.
