Art Hangs: By Us, For Us
Art Circle participants volunteer to teach workshops for Art Circle participants, free of charge. Most materials are supplied by Flemington DIY. All community members can join Art Circle anytime. Join us for our next Art Hang. Want to share something you do? We would love you to teach something you love doing. Some ideas: book binding, printing techniques, fiber arts, mini-pottery, drawing games, comics…
Email arts@flemingtondiy.org to get involved or check our calendar for our next Art Hang.

BOOK BINDING! March 3, 6-8PM, with Tanya Bowser

In this introduction to bookbinding class, we will be exploring the single page Coptic stitch binding, which is perfect for artwork since the pages lie flat once bound. It’s also great for postcards and other memorabilia. If time permits, we can also learn the pamphlet stitch, a simple stitch that can be used for journals, scrapbooks and more!

Art Machine
The Art Machine is an interactive performing art piece and Artist Residency.
Interested in having your art in the Art Machine? Sign up here for the next available Art Machine six month Artist Residency (Nov-May & May-Nov).

Photography of Art Machine by @Christianne.Ebel.Photo

The Art Machine is one of the Art Circle’s first projects. The project is courtesy of Sarah Duff (and her family), who picked up this former cigarette vending machine from south Jersey and restored it to working order; preparing it for artists to fill with their tiny art.  Jacklyn Karpinski , took the freshly primed machine and transformed it into the colorful Art Machine. On May 18, 2024, at the Decade of DIY celebration, this interactive performing art piece and artist residency was unveiled.

Each residency artist can fill up to 20 boxes (minimum of 10 boxes) with whatever art they like, including (but not limited to): figurines, buttons, stickers, earrings, necklaces, keychains, tiny framed/ready to hang art, or music codes. Artists have the choice to donate all or a portion of the sales to Flemington DIY.

The Mystery Art by Mystery Artists slots are filled with art donated from previous artist residencies.

The Art Machine is curated by Aidan Mirowsky.

This Flemington DIY Art Circle program is run in English. We would love to make all of our programming more inclusive. If you can help us do that, please email Arts@FlemingtonDIY.org

Mural Battle: Battle of the Walls
This neighborly competition invites two artists to duke it out with pens and markers, for a two hour art-making extravaganza. Our host, OurNaturalState, will choose a theme, and YOU (the artist), will create something, anything, you think portrays that theme in your OWN style.

Winners get their art placed in a highly trafficked area in Flemington, as well as a “bio post,” and other social shout outs to bathe them in their winner’s glory.

Join us every 3rd Thursday during Sip and Stroll on Stangl Rd in Flemington from June to October for some art, community and fun.

The first battle began July 18, 2024 from 6-8 just outside of Flemington DIY and they have been a blast ever since!
