Opening Reception: Saturday, March 4, 4-5:30pm
In celebration of Black History Month and the various venues offering events, the Black Thought Leaders Fan Art Show will feature art inspired by the wise words of Black leaders.
Need inspiration? Multiple events are taking place in Hunterdon County and surrounding areas to celebrate Black achievement and give visibility to the people and organizations creating change.
Local Events
- Attend the Hunterdon County Anti-Racism Coalition’s Black History Month Celebration at Flemington DIY on 2/18 from 2-4pm and get inspired by the works of Black leaders.
- Join the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum in Skillman for three different events displaying “Love Letters” in their museum, a free online performance highlighting Harriet Tubman, or their Oxtail Fest on 2/26. Learn more at ssaamuseum.org.
- Check out Raritan Valley Community College’s Planetarium show that describes the astronomy behind the song “Follow the Drinking Gourd,” on Saturdays, February 18 and 25 at 3:00 p.m. Learn about the night sky and the song that helped Black people travel north on foot from Alabama to Canada to escape oppression. This program is based on Jeanette Winters’ book by the same title. Learn more at raritanval.edu.
