BioBlitz 2024 – Day 1
June 22 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Join us in the first exploration and celebration of biodiversity in the borough of Flemington! Citizen scientists will document various species of plants, animals, and other organisms in Flemington using the iNaturalist smartphone app. This event will span 24 hours in order to provide participants an opportunity to document species that are more active at Dusk, Dawn, and at night. Once properly documented, species data will be available on iNaturalist and can be used by biologists, ecologists, and others studying populations of these species. Our goals are to create a baseline species list for the borough that can be compared with future studies and/or historical data, to engage the Flemington Community in a citizen science effort that will allow all involved to learn more about the importance of biodiversity and the species diversity that can be found in the borough, and to inspire interest in the natural communities present in the borough.
Identification expertise is helpful but not required. Groups will be led by experts from Princeton Hydro and The Hunterdon Queer Birders and will be aided with field guides and taxonomic keys. Participants who live within the borough are also strongly encouraged to document wildlife that occurs in their own backyards.
