Chess Tournament
April 12 @ 10:15 am - 2:00 pm
Come and show off your skills Saturday April 12th, 2025 from 10:15am to 2pm. Chess sets and chess clocks are provided so that all you have to do is sit and play! NOTE the tournament is capped at 48 entries so try to enter early if possible. Hope to see you there! REGISTER
What is the format of the tournament?
It ran in what is known as a chess quad. All of the players that enter will be broken up into groups of 4 based on their ratings and will play everyone in their group once. Players who obtain the most points in their group win the prize (win=1 point, draw=0.5 point, loss=0 points). It is done in this format so that the games stay relatively competitive and are not completely lopsided.
This tournament does require a USCF (United States Chess Federation) membership to join. Pricing and joining methods can be found via link (https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess). If this is your USCF rated chess event your rating will begin as “unrated” for the tournament.
Can these chess games go on forever?
No. All games are timed at Game 30 delay 5. This means, for each game, both players will have 30 minutes to make all of their moves for the game. Delay 5 means that your time will not start counting down until 5 seconds have passed on your turn. There are three methods of winning a chess game. Checkmating the opponent’s king, your opponent resigns, or your opponent runs out of time.
