StarThrower Group partners with Flemington DIY for sensory-friendly community events.
Flemington- StarThrower Group has formed a working partnership with Flemington DIY to help create community events that are inclusive for those with special needs. StarThrower Group Founder and CEO, Jenni Clark, explains, “It seemed like a natural fit since many of the current StarThrower members are active participants in DIY programs such as “Kick Start” and “Print Club”. This allows our members to develop programs and events for the community in a familiar setting with perfect access for all.”
The first joint event will be a Holiday Parade watch party at Flemington DIY (90 Main Street) on December 8. The StarThrower members will provide Hot Cocoa to parade viewers starting at 4pm,and they welcome anyone who needs a more ‘sensory-friendly’ environment for viewing the parade from 4-6pm.
Later this month the groups will also host “UGLY SWEATER OPEN MIC NIGHT” at DIY, which is open to all who wish to participate. Sign-ups will be posted on the Flemington DIY and the StarThrower Group website this week.
“Our mission and StarThrower’s mission align perfectly, so this connection made sense,” says Jeff Hersch, Executive Director of Flemington DIY. “As we begin to collaborate and share ideas, it will ultimately make our community stronger and more accessible to more people.”
StarThrower Group is a registered 501(c)3 for people in their 20s and 30s with programming run by members, for members to explore careers and create connections in the community, with special focus on inclusion for adults with special needs.
