Dates & Themes:

Mother Nature: Stories about how nature has affected your life, whether through storms, outdoor experiences, or healing from difficult periods. - July 31
Underdogs: Stories about overcoming obstacles and rising to the top when facing adversity or doubt. - August 28
Fresh Starts/New Beginnings: Stories about a new beginning, a brand new you, or how you have charted a fresh start.
How to prepare:
- Prepare a five-minute story incorporating the theme.
- Stories should not be longer than five minutes and must be told not read- that means no notes, no writing on your palm, no cue cards. We’re timing you!
- Stories should have a beginning, middle, and end.
How to participate:
- Pre-registration is strongly suggested!
- Storytellers should arrive with a prepared 5-minute story and put their names into the hat 30 minutes before the slam begins.
- Our host picks names from the hat and storytellers take to the stage one at a time.

Joey Novick has been a political comedian, camp counselor, editorial director, attorney, busboy, radio show host, professional speaker, child actor and an elected official in New Jersey – but not necessarily in that order.
Joey’s unique background: He’s a professional stand-up comedian with appearances on MTV, Comedy Central and Rascal’s Comedy Hour. Joey has appeared at hundreds of comedy clubs across the US and Canada, and opened in concert at comedy clubs for Jerry Seinfeld, Robert Klein, David Brenner, Lewis Black, and Paul Reiser.
