Welcome to Flemington DIY’s 1st Annual Puzzle Pursuit! In its essence, the Puzzle Pursuit is a community-wide outdoor puzzle race. It incorporates elements of geocaching, scavenger hunts, and most importantly, it will test your puzzle and riddle solving skills. This Puzzle Pursuit is meant to get you exploring outside, challenge your problem-solving skills and test how much you know about the Flemington Borough area.
Still confused? Here’s how it works: the first clue will be sent to every team on the day of, and from there you must solve each following clue to reach the next one until you reach the end.
Ready to play? Please read ALL of the important details below.
Rules & Other Considerations: Even though this is a friendly race, please refrain from sharing ‘answers’ with other teams. Here are some other general rules:
- Participation is by foot, bike, scooter, roller blade, skateboard, or any other form of transportation except cars. This game is meant to get you exploring outside.
- Be mindful of your surroundings such as private property and street traffic.
- Refrain from posting any photos of the race clues until the competition is over so as to avoid spoiling clues for anyone.
- Once you find a clue, make sure you put it back in the same place that you found it and do not tamper with the clues.
- All clues will have an official DIY logo on it to avoid being totally misled.
- If you get stuck, you can receive 2 HINTS during the race via text message. Use this wisely!
- You will receive a ‘Reminders Sheet’ on the day of the race with important information.
Teams:
- Join with a 2 or 3 person team, or go solo. The maximum is 3 ppl/team.
- Children under 12 years old must be supervised by an adult team player.
- One smartphone is needed per team that has GPS capabilities.
- Feel free to come up with a fun team name!
Where is the race? The ‘kickoff’ will be outside of Flemington DIY (90 Main Street). We will review important information and hand out a ‘Reminder Sheet’ at this time. The race takes place exclusively within the boundaries of the borough of Flemington.
How to play: Pre-registration will be available until August 21, 11:59 PM. You must pre-register to participate. Entry fee is $5 minimum per person (you can donate more if you’d like!) & all fees will be donated directly to Flemington Food Pantry.
If playing on teams, each person must complete their own individual registration. Please indicate on your registration the names of your team members.

- This race takes place outside – dress accordingly!
- Please be mindful of social distancing when engaging in the race, especially if you encounter others at the same clue at the same time. Be considerate and wait your turn to approach the clue until other groups have cleared out. A mask should be worn when gathered outside of Flemington DIY before & after the event.
- The game is designed as safely as possible. However, play at your own risk. We are not responsible for any damage incurred by biking/walking/moving around Flemington.
How long will the race take? The race will begin at 10am on August 22. A mass text message will go out to everyone at this time with the first clue. The race will continue until the 1st, 2nd, 3rd winning teams come through. After that, a mass text will go out to the remaining teams to inform them that 3 winners have gone through. You can continue playing if you’d like, or return to Flemington DIY. This is our first time doing this, but we estimate the race could take up to 2.5 hours. To be sure, plan to have a couple free hours on this Saturday morning into the afternoon.
